Judie Sherriff, née Meldon, trained in Graphic Design & Print Production at the Twickenham College of Technology and worked very happily for 30 years as a graphic designer in the publishing and design industry.
After having her children, Judie began to indulge her long-held passion for 'upcycling' - trawling fairs, brocantes and markets to source vintage furniture and homewares on which work her magic.
Judie quickly found her niche, transforming salvaged and restored Victorian windows into beautiful mirrors – she called them simply, “Mirror Windows”.
As time went by, Judie took up a section in the well-known Emporium in Godstone and was there for nine years, eventually managing a large portion of the business.
Through her work upcycling furniture, Judie was selected as a Surrey stockist by Annie Sloan, who had become a major influence in the interiors industry. Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan has been one of the biggest interiors success stories, her innovative and unique decorative paint having transformed furniture from the UK to the USA and beyond.
The Birth of Meldon House & Home
Following her selection by Annie Sloan, Judie started to look for her own base and found The Old Dairy in Oxted, which she moved into in 2014, calling her new business, Meldon House & Home.
Judie and the Meldon House & Home team of specialists have built up a great reputation as stockists and experts in furniture and decorative paint effects, using Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. They also run regular Annie Sloan and other creative workshops and tutorials and have a dedicated following of regular and loyal customers, for whom Judie sources and personally selects beautiful furniture and homewares to be refurbished at home or by her in-house team.
Meldon House showcases and sells an eclectic mix of vintage pieces, together with exquisite faux flowers, vintage costume jewellery sourced by Judie and a selection of contemporary homewares, including our own Meldon House & Home range of beautifully scented candles and diffusers.
From The Old Dairy to The Old Bakery!
As the business has grown over the last 4 years, Judie and her team are now embarking on a new adventure, focusing their Annie Sloan business from a new shop, Time 2 Paint @ Meldon House, to be located in the picturesque Limpsfield High Street. From here, Judie will also sell a selection of clocks and smaller pieces of furniture and homewares.
Meldon House is also on the hunt for a larger and more creatively conducive space, such as a barn or rustic building, from which to run the growing furniture business.
“We’ve loved our time at The Old Dairy and love being in Oxted,” said Judie, “but it’s time to move on to bigger things and find a larger space that works better for the furniture side of the business. We’re so excited to be moving our Annie Sloan decorative paints into our new space at The Old Bakery in Limpsfield. This is such a beautiful shop in a fantastic location and will be the perfect smaller space in which to focus on Annie Sloan and showcase our gorgeous clocks. See you there!”
